In the remote area of Patiya, Bangladesh, where an abandoned tea garden once symbolized neglect, a bold dream took root. Villagers facing deep-rooted caste discrimination came together to transform the ruins of an old tea factory into a beacon of hope. In 2009, their vision became a reality: Swapnanagar Bidyaniketon—Dreamland School, a place where children from all castes and backgrounds could learn and dream together.

For Rekha, the daughter of a day laborer, Swapnanagar was more than a school—it was her lifeline. As one of its first students, Rekha pursued her education with fierce determination. Despite walking miles to high school, enduring relentless harassment, and resisting three child marriage attempts, she never gave up. With the support of her teachers and her own unwavering resolve, Rekha became the first in her community to graduate high school and earn a full scholarship to the Asian University for Women. Today, she is pursuing a degree in Public Health, proving that education can dismantle even the most entrenched barriers.

Rekha’s success is not an isolated story. Swapnanagar has empowered hundreds of children, breaking down caste divides, reducing child marriages, and fostering unity in one of Bangladesh’s most marginalized regions. It stands as a living testament to the transformative power of education. But there is still so much more to do.

Now, Swapnanagar is ready for its next chapter. With $25,000, the school will build its first- ever 8th-grade classroom, enabling students to continue their education within their community. This expansion is part of a broader vision to empower even more children to dream big—just like Rekha—and to protect them from systemic barriers that hold them back.
